At Whittlesea Primary School, our students and staff follow a daily schedule to make the school day as consistent and predictable as possible. Knowing what will happen when, and in what order, reduces any uncertainty about the school day, promotes engagement, and sets clear expectations about the learning each day.
Learning Times and Outside BreaksStudents complete 25 hours of learning each week. While most of this time is spent with the classroom teacher, time is spent with the specialist teachers in their designated teaching spaces across the week.
The school day is broken down into 5 hours of learning and two 30-minute outdoor breaks.

Morning RoutinesClassrooms are open from 8:50 am for students to commence their morning routine.
Students enter their classroom independently, under the supervision of their classroom teacher.
Teachers and students complete their morning greetings and then students put their bags away and get ready for learning. During this time students will be completing a variety of tasks, including but not limited to, independent reading, practicing their CVC/oxford words, engaging in fine motor tasks, writing, and drawing.
Before instruction commences, teachers outline the ‘daily schedule’ as posted on the class whiteboard. This is an opportunity for students to visualise what their day will look like, what learning will take place, whether they have a specialist class, and if any special events or changes to the day. By ‘front loading’ students, we feel this will enable all students to have a successful day.
