Whittlesea Primary School offers all students an Arts program incorporating Visual Arts, as outlined in the Victorian Curriculum. This allows an avenue for students to explore creativity, divergent thinking, relaxation, expression, enjoyment, and performance.
The Arts program encourages students to develop their skills in communication and self-expression through various forms, including sharing stories and symbols from their own and other cultures. They are also encouraged to use their creative side, through drawing, painting and sculpture to communicate with others. They create and explore imaginary worlds through various art forms.
Students participate in weekly Arts lessons. In addition to these, students will have the opportunity to be involved in the Whittlesea Show, an annual community event where students' artworks from many schools are showcased.
Brand new to Whittlesea Primary School in 2026, all students participate in weekly Performing Arts/Auslan lessons, as outlined in the Victorian Curriculum. The program is designed to allow students to express their creativity through the Performing Arts and to learn about Australian Sign Language (Auslan).
Through Dance, students explore movement, rhythm and expression while developing coordination, confidence and teamwork. In Drama, students build communication skills, empathy, and imagination by creating characters, performing stories, and working collaboratively. Music lessons develop listening skills, creativity and an understanding of rhythm, pitch and performance, while fostering persistence and joy in learning.
Our Auslan program introduces students to Australian Sign Language and Deaf culture, strengthening communication skills, inclusion and respect for diversity. Learning Auslan also enhances students’ visual awareness, memory and expressive skills.
Students will also be able to participate in the Victorian State School Spectacular or perform at one of our school events.
The Health and Physical Education program at Whittlesea Primary School focuses on the development of the whole child. We aim to provide students with a strong foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity by developing proficiency in fundamental movement skills. Along with this, students are provided with strategies and approaches to enable them to participate in a range of physical activities confidently, competently, and creatively.
The program aims to build resilience, develop and strengthen students’ sense of self, and help students build and manage respectful relationships with their peers and the wider community.
Whittlesea Primary School also has a range of whole-school events and interschool sports opportunities to complement the Health and Physical Education curriculum and promote active lifestyles and choices. Each year, we have our annual house Athletics Carnival, Cross Country Carnival, and Swimming lessons for every student. From Year 3 onwards, students have the opportunity to represent the school in a wide range of team sports and individual events, including swimming, athletics, and cross-country.
In STEM, students have the opportunity to engage with Digital Technologies, as outlined in the Victorian Curriculum. Students in grades 3-6 learn coding game design, app design and animation. They utilise 3D modelling software such as TinkerCAD to create 3D designs and 3D printed objects. They explore robotics through LEGO Spike Primes and LEGO Spike Essentials.
New to 2026 is a focus on Media Arts, where students will be learning about photography and movie-making.
This learning is underpinned by our focus on Cyber Safety, to promote safe and aware internet use.
