Reporting is the process of communicating information about student achievement and progress at a point in time.
At Whittlesea Primary School the purpose of Reports is to communicate up-to-date information about a student’s progress and outcomes. It is a partnership between the school and families with the student at the centre.
All student reports are available on the Compass portal. At our school reporting student progress and achievement is completed at 4 times throughout the year in two forms:
Progressive Reports
The Whittlesea Primary School Progressive Report is used to inform families about each student's progress at a point in time. The report relates to a range of factors that underpin learning, behaviours, and skills. These reports will be provided at the end of Terms 1 and 3. The report considers the following factor groups:
Interpersonal & Organisation Skills
Responsibility & Behaviours
Perseverance & Effort
Collaboration & Teamwork
Initiative & Focus
Emotions & Self-Regulation
The ‘Progress to Date’ is a Teacher judgement that displays the student’s level of progress and considers the learning, behaviours, and skills. This reflects the progress that the teacher has observed during the reporting period. It considers and accommodates the student's starting point, and level of ability, as observed during class activities/learning time
Semester Reports
As per the Department of Education requirements of being a government school, Whittlesea Primary School is required to report against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 Achievement Standards, which includes Towards Foundation (Levels A-D) and the English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum.
The Semester reports are provided at the end of Terms 2 and 4. They report directly against the Achievement Standards of the Victorian Curriculum. We report against the learning area and/or capability taught, consistent with the teaching and learning program that the schools have planned and delivered during the associated reporting cycle.
Semester Reports contain the following information:
Families are invited to the school on two scheduled occasions to discuss learning and wellbeing outcomes to improve their connectedness to the school. These sessions will be conducted on an altered day. Students are also expected to attend with their families.
The Parent / Student / Teacher conferences are One way to show both teachers and your child that you value their education and are interested in how they are progressing at school. These opportunities are an ideal time to discover more about your child’s academic, emotional and social progress, and to share information about your child with their teachers. Even if you don’t have any concerns about your child’s progress at school, it is still worth going along to these conferences as they may provide deeper insight than a school report can provide about their strengths and interests, areas where they could improve, and what you can do to help them achieve their full potential.
Please note: Parents/Carer are also encouraged to make contact/appointments with Teachers as required throughout the year if the need arises. Please make these are scheduled meetings and not just ‘impromptu drop-ins’ at the door.
